Sporting Southern Indiana, formerly Southwest Indiana Soccer Association (SWISA), is one of the oldest and largest travel soccer clubs in the tri-state area. We field many boys and girls teams in age brackets U9 through U19. Our developmental Academy provides training for younger players concentrating on technical training and emphasizes sportsmanship and fair play. Our experienced coaching staff focuses on developing each player to their full potential.

You can expect your total costs to range from about $700 to $1200 depending on the number of tournaments and other competition a team plays, as well as other factors. The total fee is comprised of two-parts - a club fee, typically $525 - $750 per year, and the remainder a team fee, paid directly to the team to fund team activities.
We have two major fundraisers built into the Sporting SI fee structure, the Sporting Showcase Tournament and the Sporting SI Classic Tournament. These tournaments defrays our players costs by approximately $200 each and is built into our fee structure. We count on all parents to support these fundraisers by working on the tournament committee and/or during the tournaments as volunteers.
Fees should not be a barrier to any child interested in travel soccer. We are able to provide some assistance (sponsorships, etc.) to players unable to meet the financial requirements listed above. Please let us know if we can help. Contact your age group administrator if assistance is required.
We are most proud of our scholarship program. Sporting SI awards several $500 scholarships each year. The scholarship is based on the following criteria:
Visit the Scholarship page for more information and an application.
To provide and professionally administer the most competitive soccer program for youth of all ages in the Tri-State area. Our first priority is to develop and maintain a fun environment while still stressing sportsmanship, fairness, and player improvement. We are committed to the improvement of all aspects of each player's game through skill development, coaches' training, and parent education programs.
It is our policy that all players selected for a team will play. However, this does not mean that playing time will be equal or even that every player will play in every game. Playing time is determined by the coach and will depend on a variety of factors including skill, attitude, commitment, and conduct. Players may not get to play the position of their own choosing; it is the coach’s job to position players where they can best help the team.
Players are expected to exhibit a commitment to the team and put forth effort at practices and games. Commitment (attendance) and effort can effect playing time. We recognize that players and families will have conflicts that will keep them away for practice on occasion. The manager or coach should be informed of these conflicts ahead of time.
Sporting SI is governed by a board of directors. The Manager of each team represents their team at a monthly managers' meeting that includes the Board, all Team Managers, and other volunteers. All players and parents are members of the club and are welcome at all board and managers meetings. We are a non-profit organization and all members, except the coaching staff, are volunteers. Sporting SI funds are pooled to leverage the buying power of a large member organization
For many years it has been the goal of the club to have all of our teams outfitted in the same uniforms and warm-ups. This gives us a consistent club image across all age groups and gives us tremendous buying power with our vendors. No area club can get close to our low pricing on uniforms and warm-ups. Team managers will distribute information on ordering the required and optional team gear.
Our current coaching staff includes current high school and college coaches and current college soccer players. Several are former Sporting SI players themselves. Sporting SI coaches are selected based on their abilities to help develop proper soccer skills, communicate with the players, the temperament to control themselves in competitive game situations, dedication to the sport and their team, and teach team tactics. Your Sporting SI and team fees pay for all coaching fees during the season.
Sporting SI team managers are the business and organizational part of each team. They are responsible for scheduling and attending all team events, arranging out-of-town accommodations, maintaining team equipment, assisting at team practices as needed, and representing their teams at Sporting SI Board meetings, and to make sure there is good communication between team parents and the coach. They take care of all organizational issues, freeing up the coach to concentrate on coaching and player development. The coach makes all decisions about playing time, positions, game tactics, and training.
Goebel Soccer Complex: Sporting SI utilizes the fields at Goebel for practices and games throughout the season. There are two turf fields and 8 grass fields available for use.
Most teams practice 2 or 3 times per week, less if games are scheduled. Practice length is usually 2 hours or 1½ hours for the younger teams. Outdoor practices will usually begin in the early spring as weather permits, although some of our teams play a year-round schedule and start activities in the fall. Access to an indoor facility can give a team an early jump-start into spring training. Let your manager know if you have access to an indoor facility. Sporting SI fees do not cover indoor rentals, but a team fund can be established and the cost per player is usually very low.
Sporting SI teams will usually play in a league that will consist of 6 – 10 games in the Fall and /or Spring. Our teams will play in leagues such as ISL (Indiana State League), MRL (Midwest Regional League) and occasionally other available leagues, depending on the level of team. Different levels of competition are available. The coach and manager will determine which league best fits the teams skills and competitive needs. In addition to league games, the manager will probably arrange additional practice games, also known as “friendlies”.
The club has hosted the Sporting SI Soccer Classic annually around Mother’s Day weekend since 1986. Funds raised from the tournament are essential to offsetting player costs. We count on parent volunteers to serve on the tournament committee and stage this wonderful event.
The number of tournaments a team plays will be determined by the coach with input from the parents. Most Sporting SI teams play 1 - 3 fall tournaments and 2 - 3 spring tournaments. On average teams will play 5 tournaments and the state tournament. Some will play more. Each team will budget for their own tournament expenses.
The club also hosts two tournaments annually - the Southern Indiana Showcase, held in March, and then the Sporting SI SpringClassic, held in late April. Each U9 - U14 Sporting SI team will play in the Spring Classic and our U15 - U18 teams will play in our Showcase. Fees (club & team) pay for all tournament costs except for personal travel. These trips make for good weekend vacations, and help the players (and parents) come together as a team. Everyone has a lot of fun.
